Welcome to My Fourth Grade Classroom! 

My name is Mrs. Laney and this will be my 19th year teaching at Woodrow Wilson.  I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second, Third and Fourth! When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. We also have a dog and a cat in our house so it is very busy.  I love to read and go for walks/run with the kids.

Educational Philosophy/Vision: 
I have always wanted to be a teacher and have loved working at Woodrow Wilson my entire teaching career. I will be working with your child and motivating them to do their best while making sure they know they are loved and encouraged in our classroom.  I consider the success of children to be a joint effort which involves the school, the teacher, the student and the family. Through our partnership and with all of us working together, we are sure to have a wonderful and successful school year.

What are we doing in class for the First Quarter:

Reading:We will begin the quarter focusing on ask and answer questions using literature in the classroom.  We will also be working on small group procedures and routines.  We will then do our first book study, The Whipping Boy, and learn about theme, character traits and how characters change throughout a story. After a few weeks, we will focus our attention on ask/answer questions, main idea and inferring using informational text.

Math: We will begin the year learning about prime/composite numbers and learning about arrays with basic multiplication facts.  We will then focus on place value, estimation, and rounding.  We will finish the quarter focusing on addition/subtraction and multiplication word problems.

Science: This quarter we will begin with matter.  We will focus on this unit for a few weeks and then end science for the quarter with energy and motion.

Social Studies: We will begin the quarter learning about culture and then move to North Carolina symbols and then end the quarter learning about the Mountains, Piedmont and the Coastal Plains.
