Welcome to My Fourth Grade Classroom!

My name is Mrs. Laney and this will be my 20th year teaching at Woodrow Wilson.  I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second, Third and Fourth! When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. We also have a dog and a cat in our house so it is very busy.  I love to read and go for walks/run with the kids.

College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:
B.A. Elementary Education,  Ohio Northern University

Teaching experience: I am in my 20th year as a classroom teacher.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:
I have always wanted to be a teacher and have loved working at Woodrow Wilson my entire teaching career. I will be working with your child and motivating them to do their best while making sure they know they are loved and encouraged in our classroom.  I consider the success of children to be a joint effort which involves the school, the teacher, the student and the family. Through our partnership and with all of us working together, we are sure to have a wonderful and successful school year.

What are we doing in class for the Fourth Quarter:

Reading

In Reading, we will finish our chapter book called The Whipping Boy and then move to learning about the Titanic.  We will then begin to focus on EOG review.

Writing

This quarter we will focus on free writing. The students will be allowed to research, write a personal or fictional narrative or make a historical narrative.  We will use the time to work on revising and editing skills.

Math

We will finish our unit on geometry and then move on to our final unit: measurement.  We will then begin to focus our attentions on reviewing for the EOG.

Science

In Science, we will begin our final unit on animal adaptations.

Social

Studies

Our final units in Social Studies will consist of North Carolina history  and economics.
