Mrs. Laney

Welcome to My Fourth Grade Classroom!

My name is Mrs. Laney and this will be my 20th year teaching at Woodrow Wilson.  I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second, Third and Fourth! When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. We also have a dog and a cat in our house so it is very busy.  I love to read and go for walks/run with the kids.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:
I have always wanted to be a teacher and have loved working at Woodrow Wilson my entire teaching career. I will be working with your child and motivating them to do their best while making sure they know they are loved and encouraged in our classroom.  I consider the success of children to be a joint effort which involves the school, the teacher, the student and the family. Through our partnership and with all of us working together, we are sure to have a wonderful and successful school year.

What are we doing in class for the Second Quarter:

In reading, we will start the quarter working on point of view.  We will then learn about themes in poetry and elements in drama using fall poetry and plays.  After winter break, we will continue to work on details in a character, setting and plot as well as continue to work on how to infer what the author is trying to state by using the details in a text.

This quarter we will focus on writing opinion pieces.  We will start by using a mentor text about rocks and minerals and then a text about cell phones.  The students will write opinions using these topics as a prompt.

We will begin to focus on multiplying two digit and three digit numbers and then learning how to divide.  It is very important that your child knows his/her multiplication facts.

In Science we will learn about rocks, minerals and fossils.

In Social Studies, we will focus on Civics and Government.
